"Formation dancing is a development of Ballroom and Latin American Dancing where teams of Four to Eight couples are able to compete or demonstrate interesting choreograhy in the various patterns, dance styles and rhythms. Some amazing routines and striking shapes form the basis of a great routine.

Formation Dancing can be a great asset to the school principle who may be seeking an interesting and team-building project for their pupils.

Teams are not restricted to male/female only partnerships which has the positive benefit of allowing all Girls/Ladies to team up where they may not find it easy to find a suitable male partner due to the larger amount of Girls/Ladies who dance than Boys/Men.

From a teachers point of view it is definitely a positive benefit to have goals for pupils to aim for. They remain focused on their dancing when an event looms where it is important to be at your best. Team spirit builds and families seem happy to become actively involved in helping in many aspects including fund-raising etc.

Many teachers find this aspect really helps to keep dancers happy and keen to develop their dancing.

There are rules which must be adhered to for competitive teams and details of how to obtain these are available upon request." Formation Teachers Alliance
